Milwaukee Film announced today that MLB commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig and his wife Sue will give a $200,000 gift for the 2009 and 2010 Milwaukee Film Festivals.
"Bud and I are delighted to put our support behind the Milwaukee Film Festival," said Sue Selig in a statement. "We're so impressed with the enthusiasm and determination of this group, as well as with their ability to think big and think long-term. We're confident that the film festival will boost Milwaukee's profile in the arts and culture scene across the country and across the world, and we're so glad to be a part of that."
Milwaukee Film also unveiled two audience awards at the upcoming festivals that will be named in honor of the Seligs.
"Sue and Bud's gift is a great validation of our independent and community-wide effort to bring back an exceptional film festival to Milwaukee and to help build the foundation for a vibrant, year-round cultural institution," said Milwaukee Film board member Marianne Lubar.
This year's festival takes place Sept. 24-Oct. 4.
"No God No Master" fires up at Pabst
The film "No God No Master," which has been filming around Milwaukee for a couple weeks now, will shoot all day today at the former Pabst Brewery site. Filming there will continue through Thursday, Aug. 6.
According to a press release, "The first scene that will be filmed is one of the most critical scenes in the picture; a significant pyrotechnic event which will be staged at the corner of 10th and Juneau Streets ... The first pyrotechnic explosion is scheduled for late Monday afternoon."

Kudos to the Seligs for their donation. Is the 2009 festival opening as planned on September 24? It's already August but Milwaukee Film has yet to publish the schedule of films, venues, times, etc. Oddly, their website is selling advance tickets and passes, but no info. re: what you'll get for your $$.

Saw some NGNC filming on Saturday night on Michigan Street. Very cool. Talked to a couple of the producers and assistant directors. They figure 50% of the crew is local. Yet, Jim canceled the film tax credits...
