With more than 30 sold-out screenings, it's little surprise that the Milwaukee International Film Festival -- of which OnMilwaukee.com is a sponsor -- announced a 26 percent increase in attendance over last year.
The 2006 festival also notched a higher attendance than the previous year. More than 30,000 seats were occupied during the 2007 events.

What a fantastic event for the city of Milwaukee! I guess my question is, how do you top this? The festival has limited space to grow within its current venues, so I'm hoping that additional theaters will be considered throughout the city next year and beyond. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to view a MIFF Spotlight performance at a restored Grand Theater on Wisconsin Avenue (the LAST of dozens of theaters that once stood on "Grand" Avenue?) How cool would it be to attend MIFF events at the soon-to-be-reopened atmospheric Avalon? Although Milwaukee did its best to decimate its movie palaces in the post-WW2 era, MIFF has reintroduced Milwaukeeans to the magic of filmgoing and I am very happy to see their efforts recognized here today!
