The Humphrey IMAX Dome Theatre inside of the Milwaukee Public Museum, 800 W. Wells St., will bring you on an up close and personal tour of the Grand Canyon starting on Fri., Sept. 28. The film is titled "Grand Canyon: The Hidden Secrets."
Crews spent upwards of 78 days filming on location, and they went to great lengths to photograph waterfalls, side canyons and remote sections of the area, many of which are seldom seen by the public.
Audiences will also get to experience a rocky canoe ride down the Colorado River, which to this day continues to shape the Grand Canyon, moving at an average speed of four miles per hour.
Other specially selected historical events associated with the discovery of the Grand Canyon by Spanish explorers are featured as well.
"Grand Canyon: The Hidden Secrets" is one of the most popular and highest grossing IMAX films of all time. Recently, it was re-edited for its 20th anniversary re-release. It is directed by Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker Kieth Merrill. Another Academy Award winner, composer Bill Conti, handles the music department.
Tickets are $6.75 for adults (18-59), $5.75 for seniors (60 and up) and $5.25 for the kids (4-17). Children three and under are free but must sit on an adults lap. Call (414) 319-4629 for showtimes and reservations.
