Give your old eye glasses to Danny Gokey
Milwaukee's "American Idol" finalist Danny Gokey is the draw in a drive to collect eye glasses for the "Lions Recycle for Sight" program.
Starting Monday, anybody who brings used eye glasses, sunglasses (or two non-perishable foods item for the Hunger Task Force) to one of the 22 Wisconsin Vision locations in the state gets a ticket to meet Gokey at the opening of the chain's newest outlet at 5530 N. Port Washington Rd on Nov. 17.
Gokey, who has made his eyeglasses a personal trademark, is the celebrity face of the optical company, and has made a number of personal appearances on behalf of Wisconsin Vision.
At that appearance, Gokey, who has launched a country music career, plans to announce a community relief program to get his fans around the country to help local children, as part of his Sophia's Heart Foundation.
Since ive been prescribed glasses for many years i've donated my gently used glasses locally to our Shriner's Club so i know how beneficial this program is. I'm pleased and not surprised to hear that Dan is engaging himself in this program. It's such a perfect fit =] All the best, Miss Lisa @MissLisa1970 on twitter
Another great thing Danny's doing to help people.
I applaud Danny Gokey and the Lions for their efforts in helping those who need glasses but do not have the means to obtain them. It's a great idea and my hope is that the response will be overwhelming. The Lion's can always be depended on to aid in any number of causes and Danny's not-for-profit foundation is well on it's way to becoming what Danny had dreamed it could become. Many people in both Milwaukee and Nashville who needed aid after recent floods found help through Sophia's Heart Foundation and I look forward to hearing about SHF's expansion of their community relief program.
