That's right, our beloved Freak Show is making a comeback, but not without a few adjustments first.
As we reported here, the Times Cinema and WMSE decided to end the nine-year streak of midnight cult classic film showings known as Milwaukee's Friday Night Freak Show in July '06.
After discussions with the Times' manager Eric Levin and new owner Larry Widen, WMSE's Station manager Tom Crawford and promotions director Brent Gohde are now finishing plans to resurrect the tradition under the moniker "WMSE's Last Weekend Midnight Movies."
Rather than every Friday night, the films will be shown at midnight on the last Friday and Saturday night of each month, starting Feb. 23-24 with "Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation." No one under 18 will be admitted.
"We're re-branding it," says Gohde. "We're going to make it more a of special event, and that means not showing 'Pulp Fiction' for the tenth time."
Widen is now serving beer and alcohol at the cinema's revamped concession stand.
