Target vs. Wal-Mart: Apples to apples or apples and oranges? |

America has a plethora of big box stores, including Target and Wal-Mart, and most people have a preference. Both stores, particularly Wal-Mart, get a fair share of flack, but in general, these chain stores are usually bustling with shoppers.
What about you? Are you more of a Target person, a Wal-Mart shopper or neither? Sound-off, readers.
Wal-Mart. You cannot beat the prices at Wal-Mart. I am able to afford so much more than I would anywhere else. Although there are aspects about Wal-Mart I don't care for, the reality is that it's cheap and convenient. People get way too fired up about Wal-Mart, and the business is really not that bad.
Target. You cannot compare Wal-Mart and Target when it comes to style. Target items are much better looking and higher quality. The prices might be a tad higher at Target, but it's worth it. Wal-Mart's disregard for communities and its employees makes me boycott the place whenever I can.

Walmart. When you cares for style, or quality, you go to Lines-n-Things, Bed bath and Beyond, Sears or Macys, Cabela's, or nearby mall. When you care for prices, you cannot beat Walmart.

I have been to Wal-Mart only a handful of times, and only when there was no other option in the area. (i.e. out in the boonies of KY and Northern Minn) I was told years ago that the best place to shop when you move is Target, since they have everything there that you need to start up an apartment. That was 10 years ago, and now 23 moves later, I can honestly state that I couldn't do all of those without hitting a Target.

I have to go with Target on this one, too. While I do shop at both (as a diabetic, I can get my insulin and supplies cheaper at Wal-Mart, although Target is closing the gap on this) I find that Target stores are way cleaner and brighter in appearance and, in general, make me want to shop there more. Wal-mart stores are more cluttered and dirtier looking, and I still have that "need a shower" feeling when I leave there.

As a teenager I worked at both Target and WalMart, and both weren't anything to write home about, however I must say that WalMart are better employers. Now as far as not having screaming children and then parents that scream back, I'll take Target over WalMart ANY day of the week!
