If things look a little greener around here this April, there's a good reason. Our editorial staff is busy expanding the ideals of Earth Day into a month-long celebration of energy conservation, alternative transportation, recycling tips and about a million ways you can be a better friend to the planet. Welcome to Green Month, Milwaukee.

Habitat for Humanity's new ReStore recycled construction materials store is open in a recycled Sam's Club location at 801 S. 60th St., a few blocks south of I-94.

The shop is accepting donations of floor covering, sinks, lights, electrical and plumbing supplies, tools, rakes, shovels, working appliances less than five years old, lumber, yard furniture and other items.

The items will be sold to the public, keeping them out of landfills, and proceeds will fund future Habitat for Humanity building projects.

The shop is also seeking volunteers to help out in a variety of ways, including picking up donated materials. Call (414) 257-9078 for more information.

The shop is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 8:30-3 on Saturdays. ReStore is closed Sundays and Mondays.
