In nearly 100 years, Quality Candy / Buddy Squirrel has expanded to 10 Milwaukee area locations and two in Madison. This May, the company is adding a 13th store in the Third Ward.
The confectioner and gourmet company's new spot will be located just south of the Milwaukee Ale House at 215 1/2 N. Water St.
District manager Dave Mayer says, ideally, the new store will be open May 1, but to be safe, prefers to promise "some time in May."
Mayer says the company has had its eye on the Third Ward for a while and calls it a great spot.

I am always pro-local businesses but this is the wrong locale for a kitchy chocolate shop, nonetheless.

Mazzers....Quality Candy/Buddy Squirrel is a Milwaukee-based company. We should welcome it to the downtown area, as most of the locations are in area malls. Lighten up! Perhaps you should pick up some delicious cashew turtles and change your feelings towards this historic, successful company. YAY!!!

Perfect. Now I can get a $15 pound of jelly beans closer to my apartment. I moved to the 3rd Ward to get AWAY from Chain-Town USA. Buddy Squirrel doesn't exactly scream Posh, Artsy & Hip.

More candy, more better! I do, though, question the location. Unless maybe the family/company owns the building or space. But, for walk in retail in the Ward, Broadway is much better suited and more dense. But, it's unique enough that it should work. Candy = good.
