Goldmann's owner opens Mitchell Street Menswear
When Goldmann's Department Store, 930 W. Mitchell St., closed last fall, it shut the book on an 111-year-old establishment that reached iconic status in Milwaukee.
Now, former co-owner Jerry Lewis, 79, plans to reopen a similar version of the store in a nearby location, 710 W. Mitchell St., later this year.
The new store, called Mitchell Street Menswear, will occupy the storefront in the Kunzelmann-Esser Lofts Building, renovated by Gorman & Company in 2002.
The store will feature urban-appeal menswear, a shoe department, a hat department and a candy counter similar to the infamous one inside Goldmann's.
Mitchell Street Menswear will open in September 2008.
"I really just got bored being retired," said Lewis.

Best of luck to you Jerry! We miss Goldmann's terribly! I can't count the number of times I've looked for something and thought, "Darn it! Goldmann's used to have that!"

Taking a chace at almost 80 years of age with a new business venture. What an inspiration to us all! Here's wishing you the best of luck, Mr. Lewis, with your latest adventure in life.
