The "killer ice" may have come and gone, but it's certainly left some frigid winter air in its wake. This is the kind of weather that's tough enough even when you're bundled up from head to toe -- it's hard to imagine battling the elements without the proper outerwear.
Sadly, not everyone has a warm winter coat to protect them this season. The good news is that there are several stores taking donations. Fred Boutique and its shoe store neighbor Red Heel, 424 and 522 N. Water St., are two such places.
Through the end of December, anyone donating old or used winter coats receives a 15 percent discount on all clothing at Fred and 50 to 70 percent off select shoes -- and 20 percent off all new boots and shoes -- at Red Heel.
The coats will then be donated to women's shelters throughout Milwaukee.
