Item No. 1 on the City of Wauwatosa's Plan Commission Meeting for 7 p.m. tonight reads:
"Request by Keene Addington for a Conditional Use in the Business Planned Development District for a Flat Top Grill restaurant at 2751 Mayfair Rd."
Indeed, Flat Top Grill finally makes its way to the Milwaukee area.Flat Top Grill --with 10 Chicagoland locations, one in Indiana and another in Madison -- was started by Keene Addington, who according to flattopgrill.com, "in the early 1990s, (after Addington) spent 28 months in Hong Kong managing for a large restaurant company. While there (Hong Kong), he noticed one restaurant that was crammed with Americans every night. When he investigated, he discovered a long line of fresh vegetables, sauces and meats where the guests picked what they want and it was then cooked on a large grill in front of the restaurant."
"We are looking forward to opening at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa in the fall of this year," said Jenn O'Hanion, marketing specialist for Flat Top Grill, via e-mail.
Flat Top Grill is a great concept and it should do well near Mayfair.
In other Tosa news, item No. 8 on tonight's agenda reads:
"Request by West Development Partners LLC for a change in zoning from AA Light Manufacturing to AA Business at 1701/1804 N. Mayfair Rd."
This is the former Renner automotive. Sources say that Roundy's is looking to build a new Pick 'n Save location there.
That's all, for now, from the OnWauwatosa.com desk.

Yup, I did... I actually used to go to Chicago a lot and I frequently ate at the Flat Top on Southport Ave., in Lakeview and I got to know the manager very well. She suggested that I email the owner of FTG (which I did) several locations that I thought would work good for the restaurant. I listed Brady St., downtown MKE (several options), and even the 3rd ward. At any rate, I'm glad they're coming to town... yet another reason for me to stay in town and spend the money here!!

Well, it's about time the Flat Top opens in Milwaukee!!! So much better than bd's Mongolian!!! I just wish it was being built downtown... like where Edwardos was or even where China Gourmet used to be located.

Yes, there's a Mongolian BBQ place just down the block. Expect it to close shortly after Flat Top opens for business. If you haven't had it before, Flat Top is a force to be reckoned with--fresh, healthy choices, excellent service, and a simple concept done right. Tosa is in for a treat.

A Pick n Save Metro Market would do well there, possibly taking business from other area upscale stores like Sendik's, Graasch Foods and Brennan's.
