The Downtown Borders Books, 101 W. Wisconsin Ave., is completing renovation of its café as the chain continues to fulfill its contract with Seattle's Best Coffee. Soon, the café along the Riverwalk will be a full service Seattle's Best, the first in the Milwaukee market.
In other Downtown beverage news, Roundy's Metro Market, 1123 N. Van Buren St., is adding a wine and beer tasting, chilling and display area just next to its small dining/café area. Watch for regular wine and beer tastings at this Downtown grocer.

I agree with all of you. I also shop at multiple places (and I am not a WF employee, either). I lived in NYC for awhile adn just became infatuated with WF while I was there. I was very excited when it came to Milwaukee...but now there is just so much competition. Metro has nothing to worry about and neither do their regular customers. I just think its odd that a Pick and Save has wine tastings... I also like the wine shop on Brady and was not that impressed with New World when they were open.

Just wondering! Isn't Seattle's Best owned by Starbucks?

I would agree with the second comment: folks in this town are very either/or. I do most of my shopping at the Metro. They have qaulity meats and they are affordable. I shop Whole Foods if I'm looking for some exotic ingredient or I just want some of their delicious banana pudding. The wine selection at WF is no better than anyone else's. For that matter, the wine shop on Brady (I can't think of the name) has some trully unique wines at fair prices.

I personally think this is great. I like Whole Foods too, but I'm not a hater on the 'Tro. You have to compete somewhat and it's not like "beer and wine tastings" were dreamed up by WF. New World did them forever, and oh, look, they are out of business. Metro Market has a great selection of wine and beer. So does Sheridan's at the Public Market. It boggles my mind sometimes in this town when people have to be so "either/or." Here's a concept---can't you shop at multiple places?!!?

Metro Market saddens me. Everytime I turn around they add another copy-cat gimic to compete with Whole Foods. Listen up everybody: Metro Market is Pick n' Save, they just call themselves Metro Market to evoke trendiness and so called quality. Wine and Beer tasting? What are you going to be tasting 1 gal. jug of Carlo Rossi or maybe Franzia? And beer tasting? Come on Metro... we have all tasted Miller Light before. If you want to kow what diverse beer and wines taste like... Whole Foods is your place. (End of Rant)
