Lake Michigan: Swimming or no swimming? |

In the past couple years, many improvements were made at Milwaukee's Bradford Beach, resulting in cleaner sand, expanded food and drink options and a full slate full slate of events. However, do you find the water clean enough for swimming or is the lake only enjoyable from a distance?
Sound off, Milwaukee, and tell us if you'd take a dip in our Great Lake ... Or not.
Sure, I would swim in Lake Michigan. Most days, the water is fine for swimming, and it's a lot of fun as well as great exercise. One of the best aspects of living in Milwaukee is its proximity to such a large, beautiful body of water and I take full advantage of this.
I would never swim in Lake Michigan. There's too much seaweed and just not clean enough in general for me to swim in that lake. I enjoy being on the beach -- or seeing the lake when driving on Lincoln Memorial Drive -- but actually submerging my body into the lake is another story. No way.

We all swim in it when it is hot enough out. Bradford is just beautiful now, and my boys and I appriecate all the hard work volunteers and Miller put into it. We may pass on swimming right after a huge thunderstorm....but we love the beach.

Yes, and I love it! The best time of the year to swim in the lake is now, in September and October. Then the summer has had time to warm the water. Also wait for days when there is an easterly wind. That blows the warm surface water to the shore. ENJOY!!!(But don't swallow).

I swim there except when the water is too cold. Bradford beach has seen vast improvement in the last few years.

Have been swimming here since I the mid 80's and I have never once gotten sick or had a bad experience (other than how darn cold the water is the first half of summer). I will continue to swim in the lake for years to come!

I have and will swim in the lake. Some people think you are swimming in 'poop water' but those people are very informed.
