These are a few of our favorite things this week:
Good Harvest Market -- Located at 346 N. Broadway, Good Harvest Market is coming into its own. I love this little Third Ward stop and its prices and selection of groceries are now very competitive. Its new beer selection is solid, too. Add free coffee (with purchase) and this is a nice little grocery option. Need a new, quick grocery stop? Try Good Harvest Market. It's a part of the Milwaukee Public Market and located just across the street. April specials are here. --Jeff Sherman
"Rescue Me" -- Even if you're a big fan of Denis Leary's New York firefighters drama, you can admit that last season was a little wobbly and a year-and-a-half hiatus didn't exactly spark high hopes for a comeback. Well, it's back. The show's fifth season is off to a rocking start with interesting plot twists, an appearance by Michael J. Fox and a story line that looks forward and backward at the same time (with people preparing for the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks). Denis Leary and friends have beaten the odds and the show is worth a spot on your DVR. --Drew Olson
"The Complete Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Recordings" (Fantasy) -- In 1975, one of the most respected pianists in jazz teamed with the inimitable Tony Bennett to record what would become "The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album," which showcased these iconic talents and their unique interplay. The results were so engaging -- it was the rare session in which the pianist wasn't just supporting the singer, but was getting equal play -- that they reunited a little more than a year later to record "Together Again." Both LPs are here -- on two CDs -- in their entirety along with two bonus tracks from the latter sessions and 20 alternate takes from both records. A 17-page essay lays out the history and explores what makes these records so beloved and respected. --Bobby Tanzilo
Swaptree.com -- Got a lot of crap you don't want? We all do. But as they say, one person's trash is another person's treasure, and in that vein, we present this little gem of a Web site. Swaptree.com is a free and easy place to ditch all those items you'll never read again -- the DVDs you bought because they were a dollar, music you're now ashamed of and those video games you've outgrown. You create a profile and the rest is all laid out clearly for you in categories. Once you've secured a proper swap, the only cost you incur is the shipping. Not good at the whole barter system? The site offers helpful suggestions for what your item is worth in trade, as well as what you'd need to offer up in order to obtain someone else's tempting share. Pretty cool stuff here. --Julie Lawrence
MLB.TV -- During these tough economic times, It may seem outlandish to spend $109.95 (or $19.95 per month) to watch baseball games on your computer. But, the offering from MLB.TV is pretty spectacular. You can get HD-quality video, a DVR function, picture-in-picture and multi-game viewing. Be advised that you won't be able to get most Brewers games, which are blacked out, but if you love an out-of-market team this is a pretty great way to keep up with the action. --D.O.
"Sinatra: Vegas" -- This 4 CD/1 DVD box set captures classic and free-flowing Sinatra shows at the Sands, Caesar's, and the Golden Nugget. I love Disc Two, it's 1966 recordings with the Count Basie Orchestra at the Sands (Sinatra was part-owner) -- so it's pure gold and classic Sinatra. --J.S.
The Concept2 Rowing Machine -- I've never had to wait to use the rowing machine at the health club, which is both good and bad. It's good, because I don't like waiting and my time in the gym is limited. It's bad, because my fellow weekend warriors are missing out on a great full-body workout. My friends in the fitness industry say that the rowing machine packs a punch when it comes to a full-body workout. So, I'm recommending that others jump on -- as long as I can finish first. --D.O.
The NHL playoffs -- The Admirals are playing in the American Hockey League playoffs and the action at the Bradley Center is first-rate. When the home team is off or out of town, check out the Stanley Cup playoffs on Versus (Channel 525 on Time Warner Digital Cable). Even if you don't like hockey, you'll gain an appreciation for the energy and dedication and the fabulous pictures. My friend, Peter, is a huge New Jersey Devils fan and I don't expect to see him until his squad is eliminated. --D.O.

The Deadly Dozen Dragons of Joy Somethings NEW Somethings OLD Somethings USED Somethings NERDY 1) Wolverine WORKPRINT! Looks like millions have already seen the next blockbuster. 2)Memoir 44' the war/boardgame. Are you or your kids turning into Nazi Zombies for real from too much xbox? Well, this is the perfect game to get your war gamer off the video games and interacting with the family again. 3) Gang Green's Preschool -- I haven't heard it yet, but the album art and reviews made me order it-- you can be confident in my prediction of greatness on this one. 4) Tinto Brass movies--hands down better than any 49.99 adult blu-ray there is! 5) BUYING BOOK LOTS ON EBAY--Vintage Pulp Fiction Paperbacks mainly Men's Action Adventure series from my youth about post nuclear war. County Cat doesnt have a lot of these books even if it says they do. Playing the game Fallout 3 recently rekindled my youthful obsession for games such as the old //e classic Wasteland and the post nuclear genre I used to read as a child. Series such as Deathlands, The Survivalist, The Warlord(schwarzenegger almost made this series into a movie in the 80's), Out of Ashes, The Last Ranger, The Outrider, The Marauders, Traveler, Outlanders, Doomsday Warrior, and The Guardian. Take note, The Warlord, Survalist, and Deathlands are cheesy but less so than the other ones mentioned so those would be a starting place. Cheese can be good though that's why I still enjoy these books. There is also a paperback series called Mack Bolan The Executioner written by Don Pendleton that started in the 60's and is still going about a vietnam sniper returning home who wages war against the mafia that led to his families demise. The series now has multiple spin offs and ripoff now going on #300 or something but I prefer the original 1-40 because the cheese is dated and has fermented quite nicely. Marvel Comics has admitted The Executioner the American James Bond as being the influence for their famous comic book character The Punisher. Buying books online was running me about 4 dollars a piece until I wised up and started buying them in LOTS for less than a dollar a piece including shipping. Another pulp I read is from a 1930's pulp magazine called Doc Savage which also was going to be made into a movie by Schwarzenegger but now is going to be made into a movie by Sam Raimi the guy that did Spiderman, Evil Dead, etc. I recommend starting with Doc Savage #1 Man of Bronze which I wouldn't be surprised to see in theaters sometime eventually. If this older original pulp sounds more appealing than the post-apocalyptic 80's books then I recommend anything by Edgar Rice Burroughs and many of those are available free online the library only seems to have e-copies of these classics anymore. There is also Conan if you never read Robert E. Howard's Conan you might be surprised how much better it is than the movie series. There is a "different type of series" I've been collecting called The Man From T.O.M.C.A.T. it is an erotic parody of books like The Executioner with wild cover art and titles like Dirty Rotten Depriving Ray about Scandanavian Vixens plotting to make sex impossible thru out the western world. I also shamefully recommend buying the entire LOT of Choose Your Own Adventures because who doesn't want to choose their own adventures! And No Timmy's First Gay Bar is not a real Choose Your Own Adventure lol! So if you have a short attention span a need for escape and a refined taste for cheese check some of these books I mentioned out. While you're at it you could pick up that real cool swatch and OP shirt you used to have. 6) What's better than reading? Yeah I know movies, video games, staring at walls but I'm talking about AUDIO BOOKS! What's better than Audio Books? GRAPHIC AUDIO. Head on over to Graphic Audio's website and checkout all the old 80's pulp they have now with unabridged audio versions, voice acting, music, and even special effects like explosions and gunfire It's like a movie in your mind they say! Perfect for illiterates, truck drivers, and illiterate truck drivers or just for long road trips. 7) WORMS for the PS3 on PSN Store--best download yet. It's a brilliant strategy game. You can even name your team and the four worms on it and choose one of a few dozen different hilarious voice sets for your team(there is one that sounds like the guys from lock stock barrel for an example or one that sounds like james brown) I named my team The Pukes and the worms Chuck, Ralph, Earl, and Barth! They are such cads! 8) Hot Pocket's Panini--either the steak or ham avoid the other one. If at one end of the spectrum--the bad end you have the bland understuffed Hot Pocket and at the other end of the spectrum--the good end--you have a real restaurant quality Panini sandwich I'd say Hot Pocket Panini falls dead center. Twice as good as a conventional Hot Pocket but half as good as a real Panini. 9) Got a PC an internet connection a need to PWN but another 60 bucks is too much for your next FPS? Well head on over to Battlefield Heroes website apply for the Beta Key but prepared to wait a while to get it I finally got mine weeks later. It's a great free to play FPS now in beta somewhat dumbed down so you noobs can play. It's also pretty light on system req so it'll run on your grandma's emachine 10) KMFDM! Only Certain songs though... 90 percent of their collection I find unlistenable... here is my recommended KMFDM playlist 1. Yohoho 2. Rip the System 3. Naff off 4. The virus 5. Welcome 6. Go to Hell (F*** MTV MIX) 7. Virus (Pestilence Mix) 8. Godlike (Doglike Mix) 9. Leibesleid (Infringement Mix) 10. Die Now LIve Later (Born Again) 11. Naive 12. Die Now Live Later. 13 Piggybank 14. Achtung 15. Friede 16. Leibelsleid 17. Go to Hell 18 Virus (Dub) 19. Godlike (Chicago Trax Version) 20. Piggybank (Shock Version) 21. Go to Hell (Fearing Burning) 22. More & Faster 23. WWIII (YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS SONG LOL) 24. Stars and Stripes (this one too hehe) 25. Craze 26. Dogma 27. Sycophant 11) MY MOST IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATION. Read the current Newsweek April 20, 2009 page 65 the last page, The Last Word, The What of Nations? by George F. Will. In this editorial he compares the pandering Obama to The Death of a Salesman and much much more. I think it is important that everyone read this and really consider what the hell is going on in this country and the world. It's the most important thing I've read in awhile I wish I could write like that. 12) Okay now that you got a bunch of cool possesions for your fallout shelter you also are going to probably want a Ruger Blackhawk .357 4-5/8" to protect your gear it's an affordable, short and managable, straight shooting American classic that shoots .38 specials as well as .357 which can save you money when you don't want to spend the more expensive .357 round on your targets. It's a great gun for target shooting, deer hunting and just incase all hell breaks lose like in one of those paperbacks you will be well prepared!!
