Last week, I celebrated a birthday and, although I am still in my 30s, I was jokingly referred to as "almost of cougar age." This, of course, led to a debate about what age a woman must be before she falls into the cougar category.

I think a woman has to be 45 or older to join the cougar club, but a friend insisted any gal over the age of 40 is eligible for membership. Another friend, however, said 50 was the gateway to cougar-dom.

For the record, I wasn't a big fan of this label, which refers to an older woman who dates younger men, but it's an unavoidable pop culture term that many women have embraced. So, OK.

Here's an article I wrote last year if you want more information about local cougar dens.

We couldn't find a sexier cougar picture? The "I want to turn my jeans into capris" tuck and flip...along with the busted up heel. Try again.

In line with goldiegirl's thoughts. this is nothing but a stupid double standard, anyway. Why is it okay for me to date a younger woman (and don't get me wrong, I am thankful for that!!) but when an older woman dates a younger man (which I also support), she's the object of ridicule and scorn? If two people enjoy each other's company, for whatever reason, they should go for the gold and what anyone (and everyone) else thinks be damned!!

40, sexy, old enough to be hot and also have a hot daughter. ie: Mrs. Robinson, Elaine Robinson. Apparently, from what I've heard/read, Anne Bancroft wasn't even quite 40 when she played the ultimate Cougar role in The Graduate. And as an expert (back in my youth), I have to say she did a damn fine portrayal - damn...

It's more about attitude than age. A cougar, for a a lack of a better word, has to be on the prowl for younger men. I'd say the absolute minimum is 35, but 40 is probably a better number.
