Is Disney World in your childhood memory bank? |

Because of spring break, April is a popular time of year for family vacations. Many people, even those without kids of their own, have memories of piling into the family station wagon or hopping on a plane in search of somewhere warm, fun and / or educational.
A lot of families choose Disney World for their vacation destination. Although pricey, it's a guaranteed hit with the kids, and an adventure they will remember for the rest of their lives. But is Disney World a must-see for kids or is it overrated and unnecessary?
Sound off, Milwaukee, with your thoughts about the Land of All Things Mickey.
Disney World is a must-go. Every kid wants to go to Disney World. Period. If a family has the means to go, it should be at the top of the list of vacation destinations. It is extremely exciting for kids of all ages, and it's educational, too. Going to Disney World is almost a right of passage for American kids.
Disney World isn't worth the time and money. There are so many other places I would check out with my family before Disney World. It's expensive, over stimulating and more about selling Disney gear than anything else. I would go if I won a trip, but don;t think it's important enough to spend my own money.

I think people get disillusioned with Disney because they expect the great big thrill rides and fast-paced fun that other theme parks provide. While Disney has elements of those, its more about seeing the animatronics, the characters, the quaint rides (Its a Small World, Peter Pan, Pirates of the Caribean, etc.) and a return to simpler entertainment. I have been to Disney as a kid (amazing at age 12 in 1980--I think it might take more to impress a 12 year old now which is kind of sad), as an adult without kids (I thought, where's the magic!? strollers are weapons?), and with kids (8 year old son and 10 year old niece and they loved every minute of it). I think its about having an open mind, no overdosing on Disney and balancing pool and "chillax" (my son's new fav word now that he's 10) time with park time. Epcot was great for my son to learn basic science principles, etc. too. Although, we've never stayed on premises so--maybe I couldn't handle that level of Disney. And, we did daytrips to the space stuff and the Atlantic side beaches. Btw, Disney is extremely accessible and their service for people with disabilities is fantastic--even for aging grandparents who went with us on the last trip when my son was 8. Now, I have a 3 year old girl with an obsession with Disney princess movies so I think if we took her when she was 4 or 5 it would blow her mind in a good way. Who knows...we'll probably find out in a couple years. Otherwise, we do go on other "around the country" vacations without theme parks so they have balance and exposure to the history and sights that are available without a ticket.

disney is one of the premier places to go due to their high level of service and their attention to detail. they've created a world where you can go and feel like a kid, with your kids. that makes it a must for me.

Disney World is number 365,987,408 on my list of places to visit. Dollywood is #1.

I went to Disney World once in in the 70's. I've had no desire to go back. All of my friends have taken their kids there and after they came back said they wouldn't return. Disney needs to get back in touch with their public and stop concentrating on their marketing.

It kills me when I hear about people taking their 2, 3 and 4 year old kids to Disney World. What a waste of time and money. Last time I went was about 5 weeks after 9/11. I was down there for work and they gave us free tickets because nobody was going into the park. I was reminded how lame it really is - even free.
