What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Nov. 2, 2007 at 1:35 p.m.

Recently, Tanya Cromartie-Twaddle relaunched Hoodmomma.com with more content featuring "authentic voices from the women in the thick of the struggle."

Hoodmomma.com provides female writers and artists from the central city a place to share their work, glean support and educate others. The site offers a rare peek into the lives of passionate, hard-working women who, in many cases, are poor. (There's a section for men's writing, too, called "A Hoodmomma's Man Friend.")

Publisher Cromartie-Twaddle is an artist and writer with two school-age daughters. She worked as a freelance journalist for many years and has organized scores of local events for urban youth including the popular annual event "Summer of Peace."

Also, Hoodmomma.com contains poetry, profiles, "politricks," book reviews, a virtual marketplace of women-owned businesses, events, editorials and featured articles like "To douche or not to douche," which interviews women of various ages and races about this slightly controversial topic.

I plan to check back with Hoodmomma.com periodically to see how much it expands.
