Considering the fact that box stores rule the retail world, it was only a matter of time before all things maternity found their way under one roof. That one roof is atop Destination Maternity, a new one-stop maternity shop and more that's coming to Foundation Square, across the street from Brookfield Square, on Jan. 6.
The 4,500-sq. ft. superstore features Motherhood Maternity and Mimi Maternity clothing for moms-to-be and new moms who are nursing and/or waiting to return to their regular size.
The shop boast a litter of other departments as well, including a "relax" area with big screen TVs, a "mind" area with a complete library of pre- and post-natal resources, gift section with classic and contemporary presents, body section with pampering products galore and a "spirit" area offering classes on everything from old standbys like childbirth, CPR and breastfeeding to esoteric fun stuff like pregnant belly dancing, yoga and astrology for the unborn.
Destination Maternity will also have a juice bar slinging free juice and crackers, and a children's play area.
"When you add all of this together you have a truly remarkable experience, a one-stop shopping dream-come-true not offered in any other venue currently available to the maternity customer anywhere in the world," says Stuart Liebach, vice president of Destination Maternity.
Destination Maternity outlets started cropping up 14 months ago. They currently have supershops in St. Louis, Dallas, San Antonio, Charlotte, White Plains, Danbury, Conn. and Natick, Mass., and plan to open three more locations, including the Brookfield shop, very soon.
So why Milwaukee and not Chicago?
"The Brookfield area is expanding and family-oriented," says Michelle Dutille, Destination Maternity regional manager who lives in Charlotte, NC. "I was in Milwaukee a few weeks ago and blown away by how contemporary it is. It's a great fit for Destination Maternity."
Destination Maternity's Web site is www.destinationmaternity.com.
