As the year comes to a close, everyone busies themselves with year-end reflections and lists of their favorite things from 2007, so I thought I'd take a look in the other direction and write about the things I'm looking forward to in 2008. What makes your list?
Movie: "There Will Be Blood." Another P.T. Anderson work of beautiful cinematic genius, to be sure. Staring the intense Daniel Day Lewis, this film follows a turn-of-the century oil prospector in Texas through rings of greed and moral conflict. It officially opened in the U.S. the day after Christmas, but won't show up in Milwaukee theaters until some time in January.
TV: Dare I say that I might watch the latest in reality television controversy, "The Moment of Truth?" I typically hate the reality-based genre and the idea of hooking people up to lie detectors and asking them intensely personal and ethical questions in front of a national audience feel like a train wreck situation to me, yet my voyeuristic side might win on this one -- if it even lasts. It was banned in several countries before the U.S. coveted it.
Music: In 2007 Morrissey signed with Polydor/Decca and his plans for early '08 include releasing one of two new singles to be included on his forthcoming 15-track greatest solo hits collection. The album's official released date for the U.K. is Feb. 4, although the U.S. date is still T.B.A. Morrissey also has a new solo LP set for a fall '08 release.
Concert: See above.
Event: OnMilwaukee.com turns 10 years old in 2008! Stay tuned for details on just how we plan to celebrate.
