In 1996, filmmaker Jim Muraco started working on a documentary about the life of Gov. Lee Sherman Dreyfus.
"For a year I interviewed him, his wife, son, grandkids, campaign managers and so on," says Muraco.
About a decade ago, the documentary, called "The Man In the Red Vest," aired on PBS and at a private reception. Yesterday, it screened once again, this time at Dreyfus' funeral.
"I have never felt more honored," says Muraco. "This past year, Dreyfus phoned me to say thanks for my help and goodbye. (He told me) that he was in bad health and his time on earth was limited."
Muraco made a documentary called "Wisconsin Born & Bred, The Entertainers," highlighting celebrities like Al Jarreau, Jackie Mason, Daniel J. Travanti, Chris Farley and others. Currently, he is working on "It's My House," a documentary profiling unique homes throughout the state. Singer Pat McCurdy wrote and performed the title song.
"I will always be grateful to Gov. Dreyfus for jumpstarting my film career and for all of his golden advice," says Muraco.

I can personally attest to Jim Muraco's labour of love towards documentation and thos involved with his projects. Upon first meeting with Jim about his latest documentary 'It's My House', in which both I and my daughter are co-hosting/narrating, he described his positive relationship with Robert Jorge of Mark Bortchard's horror classic Coven, who he used as his narrator of Wisconsin Born and Bred: The Entertainers. He then described his affection for Dreyfus and explained his desire to depict the honorable man who wore that Red Vest. It appears that Jim Muraco cares deeply not only for the process and implementation of the conveying the info on the subjects, but he cares deeply for the subjects as well as those working on the project with him. Thus far it has been great working with Jim and catching his excitement and energy, but also sharing in those experiences with him. With no doubt in my mind, I know that Gov. Dreyfus felt that love that Jim puts out with his work, and made Jim feel special about their relationship that had developed. I am glad that they played Jim Muraco's The Man in the Red Vest at Gov. Dreyfus' funeral, and I think that Gov. Dreyfus is a revered man who many will remember warmly, and with PBS and the other channels airing Muraco's documentary, that valuable information will continue to be shared and acknowledged. I hope that 'It's My House' goes over well too, and that the reaction and feesback will be tremendous. Sincerely, Barbara Meyer-Spidell
