With the Latina population growing in Milwaukee -- and the United States -- the topics of a new book, "Borderline Personalities: A Generation of Latinas Dish on Sex, Sass & Cultural Shifting," are both relevant and timely.

On Monday, July 26, Michelle Herrera Mulligan and Robyn Moreno share their experiences editing the smart, new collection of essays at a luncheon at the Latino Arts, Inc. Gallery (located in the United Community Center), 1028 S. Ninth St. The event starts at noon.

The book is a candid collection of essays from 20 smart, funny and remarkably talented young Latina writers who reflect on their relationships with family, lifestyle and career choices and their sense of self and challenges of everyday life.

The essays explore the experiences of many Hispanic-American women who live on the "border" between their Latin cultural heritage and mainstream, Anglo society.

Contributors to the book include Julia Alvarez, Maria Hinojosa, Laura Trujillo, Lorenza Munoz, Jackie Guerra, Lynda Sandoval and Angie Cruz.

"We are very excited to welcome Michelle and Robyn," expresses Dr. Walter Sava, executive director of Latina Arts, Inc. "Her book provides a fun, but thought-provoking look at what the growing Latino population experiences. The event and the book are a great opportunity to learn more from the perspective of this increasingly influential segment of our population."

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the authors' experience and inspiration.

The event costs $5. Call (414) 384-3100 for more information and/or reservations.
