It's one of the oldest traditions in Hollywood.

Put out a movie. Make the rounds on the talk shows. Show a clip. Collect the paycheck.

If you watched "The Late Show with David Letterman" last night, you have to wonder if actor-turned-hip-hop-wannabe Joaquin Phoenix has lost his marbles or is perpetrating some kind of Andy Kaufman-inspired joke on all of us. (He had friend Casey Affleck filming his exploits).

He was supposed to be promoting the flick "Two Lovers." What he did was show why Letterman is the best in the business when an interview is tanking.

Check out this train wreck...

I saw the interview. What a waste of my time. What a bore. If Phoenix was trying to be funny, he missed. I used to enjoy his acting and stayed up specifically to see him. David deserves a bonus for putting up with self-absorbed jerks like him. He was the only one worth watching.

Forget Phoenix. Letterman hadn't been that good in about 15 years.

Tough one to call. But I think it was an act. If there wasn't the whole documentary thing going on I might think differently. But it's a pretty good act because from everything I've read, about half the people believe he was wasted out of his mind and the other half think it was a stunt.

this speaks Andy Kaufman. Do a search on youtube and watch the other stuff related to it. he raps in one of the scenes and its so sad its obvious its a stunt for something. Seems Casey Affleck is involved too. They are filming a "documentary" on this whole process. Its either to prove a point of some kind (maybe the way media is bringing up the kiddies these days?) or are making a film similar to Borat. If it was just Phoenix doing this solo, it may be real, but seeing that Casey Affleck is involved, its some sort of stunt. Very interesting.
