The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, the oldest and largest non-profit community school of music in Wisconsin, will present four jazz concerts as part of the Faculty Jazz Sextet series. Each concert will focus on a different aspect of jazz history and will honor various jazz "greats."

Faculty members include Berkeley Fudge on sax, Mike Plog on trumpet, Paul Silbergleit on guitar, Mark Davis on the piano, Jeff Hamann on bass and Dave Bayles on drums. The ensemble plays its own straight-ahead brand of hard bop that has gained it a loyal following.

All concerts will be performed in Bader Hall, inside the Conservatory, at 1584 N. Prospect Ave. Ticket prices are $12; $10 for students and seniors. Series subscriptions are also available for $38; $32 for students or seniors.

Performances are on Thursday nights and begin at 7:30 p.m.

September 25, at 7:30 p.m.: Hard Bop
The Sextet's specialty: classic charts from the 50s and 60s by Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard and other icons of the style.

November 13, at 7:30 p.m.: The Milwaukee Connection
A musical tribute to the great jazz artists who have lived in "the city by the lake" including Buddy Montgomery and Melvin Rhyne.

January 29, 2004 at 7:30 p.m.: All Our Own
A very personal evening with the multi-talented members of the Sextet, as they perform their own compositions and arrangements.

March 18, 2004 at 7:30 p.m.: Saxophone Colossus
Saluting great tenor sax artists, with charts by Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Hank Mobley and others.
