In 1969, Sandra Eugster's mother divorced her father, sold their suburban Baltimore home and moved her three children to rural Virgina where she founded a commune. Although she meant to give her girls a life of peace, love and freedom, Eugster found the experience confusing—even traumatizing -- at times.

Eugster, who is a University of Wisconsin-Madison Clinical Professor, went on to pen her memoir, "Notes from Nethers: Growing up in a Sixties Commune," and she will read from it at Broad Vocabulary on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m.
