Milwaukee native Danny Gokey, 28, auditioned on last night's episode of "American Idol 8" with a rendition of the Marvin Gaye classic "I Heard it Through the Grapevine."
While the judges' unanimous decision to send Gokey to Hollywood may have been a nice affirmation of the singer's talent, Gokey has a more important venture on his mind.
Only four weeks after the death of his wife, Gokey headed into the Kansas City, Mo., audition in the midst of finalizing the creation of "Sophia's Heart Foundation." The foundation, named in honor of Gokey's late wife, aims to support children suffering from various mental, physical and emotional issues.
Gokey is currently an employee of Wisconsin's Faith Builders International Ministry and travels between Milwaukee and Beloit. However, he recently spent considerable time recording in Nashville, where he plans to fully launch "Sophia's Heart Foundation."
Gokey and last night's other Milwaukee-native contestant, Jamar Rogers, are good friends.

I absolutley love Danny Gokey. I predict he is going to be the next American Idol. He has the entire package, fantastic voice, great personaltiy, cute (he looks like a young Robert Downey, Jr.) and star quality. You are absolutely amazing! I voted for you 100 times last night.

I said I wouldn't watch Idol again until Danny came along. Where has he been hiding!? His talent and faith are going to carry him far beyond Milwaukee and he has so much to share. Your Idol number will be on my speed dial Danny!

Wow! I have been blown away by Danny's voice from the very beginning! I am predicting RIGHT NOW that he will most probably win! And if he doesn't win, at the very least he'll be in the top 3-5! It's so interesting to watch him- when his friend is singing, he is all smiles and anticipation in support! And tonight when they had him step forward, then told him he was through to the next round without mentioning the others in his group, he didn't even smile- he was so concerned about the outcome of his friend, that he didn't react to his own very good news! He is a class act all the way- I hope has much happiness and success in his life!! Thanks- and GO DANNY!!!!-- from Roz

Looks like they had an even just only very recently. Keep an eye on this one....he seems very very genuine!

I met Danny through friends while going to Faith Builders International Ministries in Beloit and we've became great friends. I met Sophie at their wedding She looked like a princess when I saw her, beautiful! Their wedding was the funnest wedding i had ever been to!! (many agree!) I have just so many warm memories of the two of them together. Danny is so talented. I can only say we are all so very proud and happy for him and I know Sophie was too. That man has a great annointing! and his great vocals are just over the top! Besides being so talented, he is one of the most warm hearted people I know. Ok Danny, you owe me $50.00 for this lol kidding. Don't forget to vote people! Danny J ALL THE WAY! :) Boricuaaaaaaaa!! lol
