Convergence, a three-part series about performance art in Milwaukee since 1980, will be performed at the Walker's Point Center for the Arts October 2-4.

For three nights, four to five artists will give presentations that will include live performance, documentation and audience participation. Each night, there will be panel discussion moderated by writer, art model and performance artist Pegi Taylor.

Taylor, who has organized the event, says, "The goal of Convergence is to create more understanding and excitement about performance art in the Milwaukee community. Whether you want to know, 'Just what is performance art anyway?' or you've been an ardent follower, Convergence is for you."

Here's the line-up of Convergence events:

Thurs., Oct. 2: Covering 1980-'90 features Frank Ullenberg, John Luttropp (coming in from New Jersey), Jon Erickson (coming in from Ohio), and Deb Loewen, artistic director of Wild Space Dance Company. The '80s was a decade when performance art flourished in Milwaukee. Erickson will premiere a new piece, "Milwaukee Impromptu."

Fri., Oct. 3: Covering 1990-2000 features Mark Anderson, Jane Kramer, Brent Budsberg, Renato Umali and T.J. Richter. Discover why Milwaukee's performance art scene almost disappeared at the beginning of the decade and then exploded in the late '90s. Participate in an Umali survey and see Richter's use of the latest in performance technology.

Sat., Oct. 4: Covering 2000 forward features Cinnamon Rossman, Allyson Bahr, Theresa Columbus, Mark Escribano and Tate Bunker. Hear about what can keep performance art thriving in Milwaukee and watch performance art collaboration in action.

Admission to Convergence is $7 for a single event or $15 for the series. Walker's Point Center for the Arts is located at 911 W. National Ave. For more information, please call WPCA at (414) 672-2787.
