| Description [edit] | |
|
Mai Thai opened in summer 2008 to replace the former Oriental Coast on Brady Street. Here you'll not only find the tastes of Thailand, but also the traditions in a vibrant, contemporary setting.
The menu at Mai Thai is fairly large but well-organized by dish -- salads, noodles, curry, stir-fry, fried rice and specialty -- and then categorized by flavor profiles: sweet, sour, savory and spicy. Open Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. |

When Mai Thai opened I was expecting--because of the name-- a trendy, non-passionate restaurant. I was right. I went there after a recommendation from a friend, and the food (besides the soups: bland, uninteresting, bad) was totally decent, but not good enough for me to ever return. The decor was like a cheap tourist trap condo in Cancun, and echoing throughout the restaurant was radio pop-punk. In my opinion the best Thai restaurant (that I've experienced) in Wisconsin is Little Bangkok in Theinsville. Unlike Mai Thai their ingredients are fresh, crisp and taste like their straight from the source, their menu is vast and descriptive, and the environment feels homey and authentic. Mai Thai: Vegetable Tempuras, Tofu soup, Roll noodles, Massaman curry.
