I was just there this past Friday for the third time. I had a great server who recommended a delicious beer I had yet to try until then. For fans of Belgian beer this is the place to be! Their beer list is a dream come true. The food selection is limited, but I'd rather have the extensive beer selection than an extensive food selection...since we can easily find that anywhere else in Milwaukee. I need to mention that the patio looked great. Great landscaping folks!

I sent the following email to Cafe Centraal last November. No reponse to date. Won't be going back. Nuf said: had breakfast with a friend at the cafe last Sunday. I normally do not send this type of feedback but qute honestly I am angry that I did not say anything at the time and because I would really like to see you succeed here in Bayview. I thought the atmosphere was very pleasant and I love the patio - I assume you plan to pave it at some point. But to the food... my companion thought his scrambled eggs were rubbery and asked me if I thought they had been prepared in a microwave. I ordered a side of bacon with my breakfast and was suprised that you would charge $2.95 for 2 pieces of bacon that were cooked beyond any flavor and so dried out they crumbled.I could accept the portion size if it was actually good bacon. It would also be nice to have real, brewed iced tea. McDonald's even does a good job of that. Just wanted to share my experience because I would be hesitant to return or recommend Cafe Centraal but I sincerely think you could be a great asset to our neighborhood. I also hope someone actually reads this and thanks for your time.

The help is hit or miss at Cafe Centraal. I've had excellent servers, and servers that are really impressed with themselves. I realize that opening a restaurant in Bay View means that more than half of their applicant pool are going to be hipsters, but Cafe Centraal seems to have taken that to a new level. The abject silliness is actually relevant, because on more than one occasion, the person bringing me my food would act as though they were doing me a favor by gracing me with their presence. This has resulted in precisely calculated %15 tips. However, don't let sometimes-bad help dissuade you from coming. I usually don't care about stuff like "atmosphere" but in this case, certain things should be noted. I think the hard concrete floors were deliberate, in an attempt to recreate something like a "Centraal Station". While interesting in theory, the results are less than sterling. If you go there early, on a week day, you probably won't notice, but if you go during "bar hours", you won't be able to hear yourself chew above the deafening noise floor of shrieking drunkards. With those minor caveats; the food is good. Try the sweet-potato fries. Om nom. Side note: This business has single-handedly killed parking in the immediate area. If you're going to go, ride the bus... please.

I have been going to Cafe Centraal quite a bit. The food is delicious. The servers are always friendly and helpful. I see the owners there a lot and that's a good sign. It means they are paying attention to the details. If the owner is always in the kitchen and not on the floor that means trouble. The Cafe Centraal owners are out in the dining room looking around and greeting people. That makes you want to return! I have a lot of respect for this management team!
