Eco-friendly Telluride tavern coming to Bay View

Brian Normoyle, Ryan Biechler and Luke Grant will open Telluride, an "eco-friendly neighborhood tavern," in the former Chaser's space at 2155 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in Bay View, in early May, according to a statement by Ald. Tony Zielinski.

The bar - named for the environmentally-conscious Colorado ski area -- will have outdoor beer garden that will use existing green space and new plantings. It will also capture rainwater, use solar energy and other green initiatives. Telluride owners also plan to participate in Milwaukee's Fair Trade Initiative, according to the statement.

"Telluride will offer an attractive, casual atmosphere in an environmentally friendly setting, and the owners' business plan shows a commitment to being a stable, positive force for the neighborhood," said Zielinski.

Went there last night, it may have been one of the smokiest places I've ever been and here I thought I was in for a "smoke free" evening. Apparently, you can smoke in this place, but only for the "winter", when you can't open a door or window, how idiotic is that? Won't be going back....

I love this concept, and heard all the "hype" about this place, and was pretty excited to check it out. So the time came, unfortunately I have to say, my friend and I were really disappointed. First: it's way too bright in the main bar area and Second: the woman bartender was not friendly and got my drink order wrong - (I asked for a bottle, got tap.) There were only a handful of people in there, so that is no excuse to get a beer order wrong. Feeling the cold shoulder, we went outside which I have to admit is really comfortable and set up quite nice, but the very loud music coming from the faux rocks was too much to bear, it was hard to hear each-other talk, not to mention the music choice was just awful. I really hope they take these comments as constructive criticism because this place has huge potential !!

hmmm, should I host Drinking Liberally here, or at the Maple Leaf as I was thinking of doing? Oh, pity the troubled lefty, who must make such odious decisions! Or perhaps we should wait and see which will serve us better. The outdoor seating would certainly be nice on good summer nights!

Hmmm - new bar named after a chi-chi town in another state. Is it just me, or.........?
