Acccording to co-owner Kevin Sloan, Sol Fire, 2014 N. Farwell Ave., is closed. The Latin American-inspired restaurant and bar shut its doors after Sloan and business partner Carrie Torres were unable to negotiate a new lease with the building's landlord. Other issues contributed to the owners' decision to close the business, as well.
"We were not necessarily doing the volume there to justify the rent that we pay for that space and thought it better to focus our energies on The Social for now," says Sloan.
Sol Fire's entire menu is still available for catering, says Sloan, who also owns The Social Bar & Grill and Room 434.
"Carrie and I wanted to thank everyone for their support and the many encouraging comments we received through our Web site and while we were working in the restaurant. That support inspired us for a long time, continuing through our last night of service," says Sloan.

Though the atmosphere was nice and the drinks good...it's no surprise that it went under. The menu was limited and over-priced. Never really saw a large crowd unless it was brunch. Hopefully something better goes there.

you do not have to spend money on advertising to make it. word of mouth and positive reviews are definitely the best ways for a restaurant to build a customer base, what that's done, in house advertised specials and promotions can keep them coming back

The food was usually great and the prices were affordable (most dinners were between 10-16 bucks). I think that they became an afterthought with the huge influx of new restaurants and as earlier posters mentioned, they didn't advertise as much as they should have. It sucks that they closed as it was one of my favorite places for dinner.

A restaurant that doesn't advertise has usually been around for decades (see: Sanford, Coerper's, etc). Even the high end restaurants like Bartolotta's and Mo's advertise. Just because you're a new restaurant does not guarantee continual success, you need to remind people that you're there as they have a myriad of dining options through the downtown/east side area. People who open restaurants are usually very good at running a restaurant but don't really have much of a clue how to market themselves.
