Help me with my ballot

Another December means assembling another annual ballot for the Village Voice's Pazz & Jop Poll, something I've been doing for a couple decades now. This is the first year I didn't keep a running list all year long. So, I feel like I'm missing something big.

Here's my current list, tell me what I'm missing.

Some of the discs are from late 2007, which is acceptable since those records made their biggest impact in 2008. Also, please note, that I assign all the records an equal 10 points (voters have 100 points to assign to the top 10 records), so the list is not in any special order.

Who should be famous?

Famous people get lots of publicity. That`s partly why they are famous. The fame drives publicity and the publicity drives fame. But for every famous person in Milwaukee there are hundreds of other people, not famous, who do things that make this city a better place to live. They don`t get recognition much beyond their own borders, but this is going to be an attempt to rectify that.

One third of the way through 2011, I`ve already started thinking about my annual Village Voice Pazz and Jop Poll ballot. Here are some early contenders for my ballot, so far.

The king is dead, long live The Decemberists

When "The King is Dead" -- clearly a reference to The Smiths` 1986 masterwork, "The Queen is Dead" -- arrived a couple weeks back, I was very pleased. Packed again with the kind of tuneful, focused music that originally hooked me, I suddenly felt the need to go see The Decemberists live again.
