Eating out -- particularly for breakfast -- is a rare treat these days, mostly because I often find it easier and more affordable to feed my wee ones at home. But this weekend I'm feeling brave, and thinking about journeying out for brunch.
I am a lover of the pancake and make a pretty damn good stack at home. However, I am wondering which local eateries specialize in the syrupy cakes?
I usually eat pancakes when dining out for brunch / breakfast because they are filling and, if ordered without butter, are relatively low in fat. I admit that I'm tempted by other menu items, like omelettes the size of my kid, but I usually pick pancakes. You know, trying to avoid the stereotyped "mom" figure.

Sorry everybody, but the last time I had a good pancake in a restaurant was when I made them at the Coffee Trader in 1989. I'll stick to my own homemade stacks on Sunday mornings.

We love going to Traditional Pancake House across from Southridge Mall. They are family owned so you have a homey, welcoming feeling there. We absolutely love the Raspberry Blintzes and the Pumpkin Nut pancakes. We have also gone there for a Friday Fish Fry and found that it's really good. They have great potato pancakes with the fish fry (actually the best we've had anywhere). I would definitely try it, even if you dont live nearby, it's worth the drive!

I think Benji's Deli & Restaurant on Oakland has very yummy pancakes! And they're huge to boot. They've recently added chocolate chip pancakes too.

Cafe Hollander's cleverly named Napoleon Dynamite are the BEST pancakes I have ever had, period. Wedged in between the 4-pancake tower like delicious mortar are layers of fried egg, bacon and white cheddar sauce. Drizzle on the tiny pitcher of maple syrup and you've just entered Pancake Valhalla my friend.

We love the Pancake House on Downer. My personal favorite is their tropical pancakes.
