Mama De Marinis' is closed ... at least for now
Mama De Marini's, 2457 S. Wentworth Ave., is closed. Signs in the window read: "Due to a licensing issue, we will be closed for a couple of weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience."
According to an employee at Dom & Phil De Marinis, 1211 E. Conway St., Mama De Marini's is closed for good. The two restaurants are not affiliated, but the employee, who wanted to remain anonymous, says she heard from sources the restaurant would not reopen.
OnMilwaukee.com will monitor the situation and report back.
This is too bad. I wish the best for Jess and Vince, they were always very nice and in a good mood. Even though I had been going to this place for 30+ years I stopped in the last few months because of the service. The regular bartender was so rude and seemingly went out of his way to provide such a lack of service that is was no longer worth my money to even carry out a pizza anymore. This news saddens me a bit but I've seen it coming for a long time now. Maybe a few changes in management (or an entirely new owner along the likes of a Scott Johnson) can revive this place because the pizza was great and I always dug the neighborhood feel of the joint.
