Could you live in Green Bay?
My husband was born and raised in Green Bay, and his mother and stepdad still live there. Consequently, we visit at least a few times a year, and when we do, my mother-in-law always suggests -- subtly or not so subtly -- that we should pack up the kids and move to the "Frozen Tundra."
This isn't going to happen.
Granted, I've seen a lot of changes in Green Bay since I first started visiting more than a decade ago. Back then, we hung out at the Cock & Bull, Speak Easy and our favorite place, the now-defunct Concert Café. In the past few years, we've watched new places open and add to the mix, like Bull & Bear, Top Hat, Hinterland Brewery and Sardine Can.
Sure, Green Bay has its charms: the Packers, of course, along with a rich Native American history, classic Sconnie fish fry joints like the Lorelei, Hansen's Dairy, the beautiful Green Bay bike trail and my beloved Don Smith Sales that's stocked with cheap odds 'n' ends from the '70s and '80s.
But I really don't think I could live in Green Bay. Despite the increase in modern bars and restaurants, I still feel a certain podunk-ness about Packerland, and that although it's a growing city, it's still not quite enough.

I've lived in a small southern town, so yes, I could live in Green Bay. It would be a bit small for me, and I would miss the cultural, artistic, and culinary options of Milwaukee. Also, I wouldn't be able to the kind of work there that I've been trained for, so I would have to take a few steps down my professional ladder. But I could nonetheless still live there--there are some good cultural opportunities there; it's not exactly the tundra. And I like to read, write, and cook--except maybe for specialized ingredients, those activities don't change too much from place to place. And Green Bay has great access to natural areas, as well as Door County. For hiking, birding, and many other activities, it's quite an ideal place.

I agree w/ Diesel. GB pop = 80%, with 50% being white trash.

For all the ignorant people that post on here ethnicity does matter. I can guarantee if Greenbay was mostly black that none of you would want to live there.The fact that greenbay is mostly caucasian would discourage alot of people of color from wanting to even visit there let alone live there. With that said I want to live somewhere that is diverse. Greenbay is definately not that. Ive been up north and have been treated with a lack of respect and looked at like they have never seen a black person in their life before. Its crazy that in 2008 its still like that. Thats my 2 cents.

GB has the biggest joke of a bar hopping scene I ever have witnessed. Having stayed at hotel there last year for a game, even the desk clerks suggested driving over to downtown Appleton instead. Outside of the Packers and their tradition, what else is there? The casino is 99% white trash over 60.

"Green Bay is about 86% white, according to 2000 census figures. I wouldn't live in an environment that was so lacking in ethnic diversity." kind of a strange comment? who cares what the skin color is? you're talking about living in a city with things to do, local activites, job market, friendly community. That statement would not be a concern to me. People are people.
