On my first visit to Good Life, I enjoyed the food. But even more, I enjoyed going to a Caribbean-themed business that didn't feature tie-dyed-looking murals featuring Bob Marley's face and the whole schlocky, cynical exploitation of the departed superstar. Even better, there was not a hint of Buffett anywhere!! As a nearly 30-year fan of Jamaican music, this was a rare and delectable treat in itself.

Although three Marley tunes played during our 90-minute or so dining experience (that's no problem, since there's no denying his impact and we love his music), we also heard a great roots tune by Rod Taylor, a Treasure Isle-era number by Daddy U Roy, a Volcano-era dancehall gem from Yellowman, an OK crossover Jimmy Cliff tune, Peter Tosh's "No Sympathy," and other great music.

Kudos to DJ and Cassie Brooks, for getting everything right -- not just the food, but also the music -- at Good Life.

Yeah, more than the food, I'd definitely go back for the music. When I first saw that place going up I thought that it could either be really cool, or really, really lame. Thus far it seems they're headed in the right direction.
