An e-mail from the Zilli Restaurant group confirmed what local news reports stated recently, Coast, 931 E. Wisconsin Ave., will close at the end of the year and transform itself into a private, for rent space called Zilli Lake and Gardens.
Zilli Lake and Gardens is slated to open in February 2009. Here's the official word, "Coast -- A Zilli Restaurant will start renovations to become Zilli Lake & Gardens Jan. 1, 2009 and will be closed to the public after that time."
Your last chance to dine and drink at Coast is on New Year's Eve. Coast opened at its O'Donnell Park location on Aug. 7, 2003.

It's kind of interesting that it doesn't appear many folks had good food or service at Coast. If this is the case, how will making it a private dining room for groups help? I predict we will see something replacing the "private dining" in less than 6 months. It's sad its managed so poorly, such a great location!

I have to agree. The place looked like Omega inside and I didn't even want to eat there. If anything they should just make a big food court out of the place open to everyone. Im sure with the art museum and other stuff there it would get a ton of business. Hey maybe even some type of bar as well.

This is a prime location for a potentially great restaurant. Why would you make this a private venue. I dont see this venture doing any better than Coast did. This was a very bad business decision. It will fail big time.

Easy on the outrage... Coast was only a portion of the entire O'Donnell Park Pavilion. And yes, (since the time of Tom Ament) the rooms in pavilion were all for private rental. It is now joining the Miller Room as rental space. http://www.county.milwaukee.gov/router.asp?docid=15897

This makes no sense. How can a facility on county property be made available only for private functions? Is this Scott Walker's idea of the county's future? Let's lease the airport, the golf courses, the pools, and the parks to the highest bidders. Maybe we can offer taxpayers a window and we can charge them to watch their more wealthy neighbors enjoy the facilities they pay for. Is this the American (or Milwaukee) way? Jeesh!
