The Milwaukee Public Market, 400 N. Water St., adds a new bread vendor in "mid-to late August," according to Don and Clare Kaminski, who will open another Breadsmith location there.
"Breadsmith is on a mission to show people what a truly great experience they can have with bread," said Kaminski. "We will not only hand-craft every loaf, but create and bake in a time-honored, traditional way, using only the highest quality ingredients, without additives or preservatives. I think it's a perfect fit for both the market and Breadsmith."
In 1993, founder Dan Sterling opened his first Breadsmith store in Milwaukee. Its breads have won national acclaim by Bon Appetit, which ranked Breadsmith as one of the best bakeries in America. Today, there are currently 33 Breadsmith stores across the country.
Breadsmith replaces Piacentine Artisan Bread. The family, who used to also own a bakery in Oconomowoc, closes its Market location next week, August 14 when its lease expires. They hope to, according to their Web site, return to the Market at some point.
The Breadsmith store at the Public Market will be the fifth location in the Milwaukee area and 34th Breadsmith nationwide. This store will assume the Public Market hours Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For a preview of the menu that will be available at the market, visit Kaminski's Breadsmith store located at 2632 N. Downer Ave.
In other Public Market news, St. Paul Fish Company begins serving the classic formula Schlitz on tap at its oyster and fish bar next week.
