The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
Milwaukeeans may be known for eating bratwurst, but we're pretty fond of chicken wings in these parts, too.
Think about it...
In terms of TV ratings, interest and merchandise sales, the Milwaukee-Madison-Green Bay triangle constitutes one of the hotter football markets in the country. Football fans like to eat while they watch games.
What food goes better with football than chicken wings?
When it comes to wings, OnMilwaukee.com readers like variety.
With 14 different sauces and five local locations (Water Street, Mayfair, West Allis, New Berlin and West Bend), Buffalo Wild Wings was a clear winner over Elsa's on the Park, which finished second.
The votes were spread out over the 15 finalists, but the "Other" category finished second, which showed a great diversity in the palates of the electorate. Among the leaders in the "also receiving votes" category was Points East Pub, a favorite among wing-a-holics that will undoubtedly be a contender for next year's prize.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Elsa's

2. Elsa's
3. Leff's Lucky Town
4. The Wicked Hop
5. Club Garibaldi

LegallyBlonde. Let me clarify. I understand that this poll is reader voted, BUT...Some voters may not even be wing eaters. The truth is when people are voting, they vote on what they know. "Brand Awareness". And brand awareness is aroused by advertising. Advertising is aroused by Money. Big Bucks = Big Name= Brand Awareness = Best Of. 99% of these surveys are not accurate. Thats all Im saying.

curlyboy.... you have not seen the process those wings go through!!! First they are deep fried, and then they spend a day or two in a huge tub filled with this special secret sauce... then finally they are whipped out and grilled over an open flame. Nothing rubbed in. Sorry.

For all your Points East Lovers, I am sorry but their "buffalo wings" are just plain chicken wings w/ spices grilled in -- there is not real sauce on the wings period. BW3's used to have good wings back in the day when they weren't as big a chain; now its just generic undercooked and nasty wings there.

It should surprise nobody that BWW won. They have market saturation. There is probably a BWW within a 10 minute drive of anyone within the market area of On Milwaukee.com. That is why they won. I like BWW just fine (but their wings are too small) but I will agree that they do not have the best wings in the area. I like Points East and Major Goolsbys best. Goolsbys are a bit different because they are breaded, but they are huge and they are tasty! I cannot wait for basketball season so I can get my regular Goolsbys wing fix.
