The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
In this category, The Chocolate Factory's reign was long and strong, but last year OnMilwaukee.com readers voted the sandwiches at Cafe LuLu, 2261 and 2265 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., as their favorite. And, just to seal the deal, you, dear readers, have elected LuLu once again.
Perhaps its that famous Asian slaw or homemade potato chips that accompany them that carried the day?
Either way, Milwaukeeans are fanatic for the pitas -- the chipotle chicken, the Mediterranean steak, the Mid-East falafel, the East Indian chicken, the hummus or the roasted vegetable. The savory melts -- Santa Fe cheddar, the Florentine and the Sicilian -- are favorites, too.
Of course, LuLu does baguettes like no other, offering seven different meat and vegetarian varieties.
Good stuff. And, of course, now you can get many of the same treats at Juniper 61 in Tosa, too.

Panini Co made the list? That place is still open? Haven't been back since the I saw a large swarm of fruit flies in the soda dispensers. Le Reve should have been on this list!

Milwaukee needs another great deli. Too many sub shops. Something like DiNic's in Philly: http://www.readingterminalmarket.org/merchants/view/56 Or, better yet IKE's PLACE in San Fran: http://www.ilikeikesplace.com/ I miss Cool Doug's .... that was a fun, lively, made to order sandwich and sub shop.

Such a shame that Fuel was not included on the nominees for this category. It was my write in choice.
