Milwaukee's best coffee shop/cafe, 2011: Alterra

Your votes are in, Milwaukee, and you have selected the winners of OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2011. We're announcing the results of this readers' poll, including our editors' pick, in a series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."

As it does every year, Alterra absolutely roasted its competition, as the readers of OnMilwaukee.com again voted the popular coffee roasters the best in Milwaukee.

In fact, Alterra took 52.2 percent of the votes, beating runner up (and our editors' choice) Stone Creek by more than 650 votes.

Since 1993, this Milwaukee company has brewed strong coffee in style. From their ever-growing shop on Prospect to their beautiful location on the lake to the industrial Fifth Ward Foundry, Alterra has made a name for itself as a company committed to environmental sustainability. We expect its location in Bay View to be another big hit, as well.

Whether you're drinking Alterra's coffee at the airport, at a café or at the mall, it's no wonder the company was voted one of Forbes Traveler magazine's 10 hottest coffeehouses. Our staff is there just about every day, and by the looks of it, our readers are, too.

I ask for it every year...could you please post one link at the top of the main dining page that takes us to all of the "Best of" headlines for the month, housed in one spot. I'm reading the best coffee article, and I can see link to the best Mexican article over there on the right, but where are the rest of them?

bbrannan - Comet serves Anodyne, same with Honeypie, Palomino and The Eatery. I also prefer Anodyne's coffee to Alterra (too bitter).

I think Stone Creek Coffee is the best coffee I have had, and Cedarburg Roastery is right up there, too. But when you throw cafe into the category I can see why Alterra would be tops, with their full menu and their musical offerings, not to mention the cool ambiance of their shops/cafes.

Comet? They have terrible coffee (and bloody marys too). Roast and Anodyne should be higher as well, in my opinion.
