The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
Izumi's, 2150 N. Prospect Ave., has earned a reputation in Milwaukee for friendly, accommodating service, as well as a tasty menu that doesn't break the bank.
OnMilwaukee.com readers voted it their favorite Japanese restaurant for the third straight year and, again, Nanakusa was a close second.
To diners' delight, Izumi's relocated in early 2005 to a significantly more spacious and aesthetically pleasing space, complete with artful, ambient lighting, lengthy sushi bar and enclosed tatami room.
The sake list, featuring hot, cold and room temperature options, is also a big draw here and the knowledgeable staff is often helpful if you don't know what you're getting your taste buds into.
At lunch, order a bento box and get more food than you can eat for under $10.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Nanakusa
Runners-up:
2. Nanakusa
3. Sake Tumi
4. Fujiyama
5. Japanica
6. Benihana
7. Seigo's Japanese Steak House

9. Kyoto
10. Samurai Sushi
(tie) Takara
12. Wasabi Sushi & Lounge
13. Lucky Liu's
14. Midori Sushi Bar

Great food and they have a customer appreciation program in place. This place has always been on my list. Can get expensive though as most sushi can be.
