Milwaukee's best frozen custard, 2009: Kopp's
With barely any seating, the Kopp's in Glendale gets you in and out in a hurry.

The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

Like several other categories before it, we sometimes know who will win before the first vote is even cast. As it does every year, Kopp's creamed the competition for best frozen custard. Taking almost half the votes, no one came even close to dethroning Milwaukee's custard king.

In this case, it wasn't even a popularity or name recognition contest, as Karl Kopp does make some indisputably delicious desserts. With several locations around town, his stands blend an eye for design detail, robot-like efficiency and melty, eggy, creamy goodness. A bunch of selections in this list are worthy contenders, and even though our editorial board picked Leon's as our favorite this year, you can never, ever go wrong with Kopp's.

Editors' choice: Leon's

Runners-up:
2. Leon's
3. Gilles
4. Bella's Fat Cat
5. Culver's
6. Oscar's
7. Lixx
8. Le Duc's
9. Robert's
10. The Kiltie
11. Pizza Shuttle
12. The Gyros Stand
13. Murph's
14. Paul's Omega
15. Kitt's

Wrong - Leon's is the best custard. Kopp's has the BEST variety, but Leon's has the best quality, old fashioned real custard flavor. Besides, who needs more than chocolate or vanilla?!

So what you are saying is you voted more then once for the same place. Hmmm. This is NOT in fact what Milwaukee thinks is best then, it is what YOU think is best. Good to know. On a side note, I have nothing bad to say about Kopps, they have good ice cream/custard. Just the fact that they dont even SELL comfort food, yet won the award is got a lot of people wondering what is going on at OnMilwaukee.com

i dont see how your proving me wrong. from miriam websters dictionary: Main Entry: comfort food Function: noun Date: 1977 : food prepared in a traditional style having a usually nostalgic or sentimental appeal the fact that comfort foods is defined by having a "nostalgic or sentimental appeal" means that the definition of comfort food is in the eye of the beholder. if you dont find that what they sell is "comforting" then i should point out that you are in the minority. obviously more people than you do think that burgers and custard are. thats why they won. if you wanted some other place to win that offers "chocolate cake, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes (or twice-baked potato), applesauce, fried chicken, chicken noodle soup, pizza, peanut butter, ice cream, bacon, chicken and dumplings, eggs, and hash browns for breakfast" then you should have voted more. get over it.

If you are going to quote Wiki, please do the full part, even the part that proves you wrong. Favorite home-made comfort foods in the US include chocolate cake, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes (or twice-baked potato), applesauce, fried chicken, chicken noodle soup, pizza, peanut butter, ice cream, bacon, chicken and dumplings, eggs, and hash browns for breakfast. Many creative mixes of foods have emerged that people term as comfort foods. Some also would consider potato chips as comfort food. Sorry, I am NOT wrong. One day after columbus day, a person who proved the world is not flat, even though the majorty said it was, I am doing the same to OnMilwaukee.com So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
