The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
If Milwaukee's got a handle on any dessert, it's frozen custard. Similar to its ice cream cousin, custard is usually thicker, creamier and, by far, this city's dessert preference.
Kopp's has been a local custard staple since the classic '50s and, thankfully, it hasn't changed all that much over the decades. There are now three area locations -- Glendale, Brookfield and Greenfield -- so a double cone and a jumbo burger are never too far away.
People love Kopp's for its traditional chocolate and vanilla, but also for its innovation -- it was the first custard stand to offer a special "flavor of the day." And the banana splits, fudge delights and turtle sundaes are absolutely unbeatable.
OnMilwaukee.com readers have spoken: and 46% of them say Kopp's is tops!

Legwide - I agree Golden Gyros should have at least made the list. Their flavors of the day are great and unlike Culver's who puts two cookie crumbs in and calls it 'cookies and cream', Gyros loads their custard with goodies. But overall I think Kopps beats them out on flavor. Kopps vanilla is the best.

The only thing bad I have to say about Kopp's is the ugly sign they put out in front of the Glendale location. The old one allowed people from the freeway see it and stop in. The new one, I can barely read what the flavor of the day is! Other than that, I heart me some Kopp's.

what no golden gyros i think golden gyros should of been first their sundaes are way way better than kopps but kopps flavors of the day are better than gyros so maybe that is how they won but for golden gyros not to even make the top 10 really disappoints me

the best flavor of the day is kopp's. the best vanilla (with fudge & pecans) is Leon's.
