Operating since 1999 in a cozy Cream City brick building in the Menomonee Valley, Sobelman's serves Black Angus burgers with three cheeses and more! |

The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
Bratwurst and other sausages might get more attention from tourists and media types (we can thank a certain stadium race for that), but Milwaukeeans are pretty passionate about burgers, too.
And, they're pretty passionate about Sobelman's.
The former Schlitz tavern, located at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave., in the Menomonee Valley, serves the best burger in town, according to OnMilwaukee.com readers. Sobelman's also took the title last year.
This year, Sobelman's newest venture -- the Tallgrass Grill on the East Side -- makes its chart debut at an impressive No. 5.
Operating since 1999 in a cozy Cream City brick building on low-key corner, Sobelman's serves Black Angus burgers on tasty buns with three cheeses, jalaenos and fried onions. The bar, which is meticulously clean (they even wipe down the salt shakers), also earns raves for its Bloody Marys.
It's the burgers, though, that created a frenzied following and prompted the owners, Dave and Melanie Sobelman, to park their Web site at milwaukeesbestburgers.com.
When the subject of Milwaukee's best burger comes up, a number of venues spring instantly to mind. The people who prefer Sobelman's, though, generally don't like to hear about other contestants. Even though it's tempting to keep the place a secret, they'll always gush at length about the great tasting burger on St. Paul.

Based on Davia has posted, I can see that Soblemans is in fact NOT the best burger in town.

Congratulations to Sobelman's on receiving the grand recognition it deserves! The combination of fresh Angus patties and the Breadsmith buns (not to mention the amazing toppings) makes for the BEST darn burger in town. Trust me, I know a great burger when I eat one and Sobelman's is tops! Aside from the FANtastic burgers, did anyone bother to mention their amazing Bloody Mary's? Sobelman's ROCKS!

Hey pooper, i am the 15 year old daughter of the owners of Sobelmans , that is how i know that the burgers are not frozen. As a matter of fact i am now at Sobelmans looking at a case of burgers and they nor are any frozen. They all come fresh from the meat packing place twice a week and go in the COOLER. The label says that they are Premium Angus Beef, U.S inspected and passed by the Department of Agriculture. Oh yeah, and again they are all fresh and none are frozen. My parents really don't need the likes of people like you spreading misinformation about the business theyt work so hard at. Now Pooper, if you are brave enough, don't take my word, go to Sobelmans yourself and see and after make sure you take your ##### out of your mouth.

As more people try Tallgrass they'll understand that it's the healthiest for you and best burger in town.

Ok Davia - Based upon your history of talkbacks on OnMilwaukee.com, you clearly either work for Sobelman's or you are sleeping with the owner. So I think your judgement is thrown out the window since you are clearly biased. And des1, anyone that has ever worked at a restaurant has worked at many, and I am not about to get into a discussion regarding which ones, because it is irrelevant, and frozen is frozen. Choose to ignore facts if you want, but I challenge you to try another burger with the possibility that it is frozen and tell me, it is not a frozen hockey puck with a delicious buttery bun that makes up for it's shortcomings.
