October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
Mom always said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Who are we to argue with mom?
When it comes to the morning meal, Milwaukeeans prefer The Original Pancake House, which has locations in the old "Coffee Trader space" on Downer Avenue and on the busy Bluemound Road strip in Brookfield.
The Original Pancake House won first place in our readers' poll on the strength of its signature items like the apple pancake, melt-in-your-mouth crepes, fluffy omelets and sugary, air-filled Dutch Baby pastry.
A pair of East Side staples -- Beans & Barley and Ma Fischer's -- ran a neck-and-neck race for second place, with Milwaukee classic George Webb finishing fourth.
OnMilwaukee.com editor's choice: Beans & Barley
Runners-up:
2. Beans & Barley
3. Ma Fischer's
4. George Webb
5. Alterra at the Lake
6. Omega on 27th Street

Are you kidding me? Unless this place has improved drastically in the past two years, it is the absolute worst place for breakfast. Service is horrible and the last time I went my omelette was green. When I asked the waiter to take it back, he took it back and said "Oh don't worry; you won't get sick or anything". That was the last time I ate there.
