@otbthink Any Spanish deli or grocery should have. Shouldn't be hard, all of them fly Spain's flag. Maybe Sedano or Presidente has it.

Benji's doesn't look the same as it once did, but the food remains consistent.

October is the third annual Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delicious features, chef profiles, unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2009."

Benji's Deli
4156 N. Oakland Ave., (414) 332-7777

Nothing stays the same, even the venerable old Benji's Deli in Shorewood. Benji sold the iconic Milwaukee deli years ago, and the place has been sanitized quite a bit. But the quality of the food stays the same, and along with Jake's, is one of the two totally legit Jewish delis in the Milwaukee area.

Menu: Deli fare, breakfast and meaty Old World comfort food.

Price: Inexpensive.

When to go: Lunch is a great time for a corned beef sandwich and a cup of matzo ball soup, but don't forget breakfast and Benji's famous Hoppel Poppel.

Dress: Casual.

Don't miss: Where to start? Pastrami, corned beef, lox, tongue, brisket -- check your cholesterol concerns at the door and enjoy a nice bowl of chicken soup like your Bubbie used to make. Wash it all down with a Dr. Brown's cream soda. And grab a bar of halvah on the way out.

Parking: Plenty of parking can usually be found in the lot adjacent to this old-school mini-mall.

Subdude: Where else in the city can you get a cup of soup for less than $3? This place seriously has one of the cheapest breakfasts in the city.

since the new ownership the food is not as good. The barley soup is water downed a bit. The corn beef has also changed. The other deli, Jakes is slow and you are forced to wait over 20 minutes for a takeout order. These establishments should go to NYC and check out their customer service.

Actually went to Benji's today for the first time in 20 years before reading your review.. almost had the hoppelpoppel but opted for the Reuben with a cup of matzo ball soup. Everything was great but $2.95 for a cup of thin broth with a single dumpling was a little steep...Shorewood prices.
