GQ picked Alterra as one of the top 10 places to get coffee in the U.S. |

October is the third annual Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delicious features, chef profiles, unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2009."
If the line at your favorite Alterra Coffee Roasters seems a little longer this month, you can thank the folks at GQ.
The magazine, formerly known as Gentleman's Quarterly, named Alterra as one of the 10 best places to get your coffee fix. The magazine lauds the "new generation of purveyors bent on returning craft and artistry to the beverage."
In the blurb about Alterra, the magazine writes:
"The creamy, almost viscous espresso at Alterra (started by three local guys back in the dark ages of coffee -- the mid-'90s) could very well herald the day Milwaukee is known for a beverage other than beer. The secret to its popular Espresso Toro blend is the Brazilian beans, which are roasted long and slow at a superlow temperature."
We're not sure about giving up our beer identity just yet, but Alterra serves a good cup of coffee, you said so yourself by voting Alterra the top coffee shop again in our annual readers' poll.

Great for Alterra! National recognition for Milwaukee! Thank You Alterra. A testament to small (or not so small) local coffee roasters. As for local roasters, for my money I prefer Stone Creek's Green Bike espresso. No matter which way you look at it though - buy local and buy often. Congrats on the ranking!
