Azmi Alaeddin is opening a new restaurant inside the Downtown Milwaukee Intermodal Station, 433 W. St. Paul Ave.
It will be a sister restaurant to his Aladdin Tastes of the East at Milwaukee Public Market. Alaeddin, chef and owner of Aladdin -- Tastes of the East, has been cooking and baking his specialty foods in Milwaukee for more than 15 years.
In January 2008, I blogged about the need for coffee and dining options at Milwaukee's new $15.8 million Amtrak Depot / Intermodal Facility. Since then, the state and Downtown Ald. Robert J. Bauman have worked to secure a tenant. Ultimately, it was the entrepreneurial Alaeddin who stepped up.
Alaeddin is still fleshing out his full concept and working to partner with a local coffee vendor, too. He hopes to open this summer.

Confused: I thought they announced a Subway was going in there? And yes I give it about 6 months till he pulls the plug (I mean the Public Market is a 2 blocks away!).

When I am traveling I have very little time to eat and would definitely look for something fast and healthy nearby. The All Board Cafe will be primarily serving those in transit who may have little time to look for a nearby restaurant or may want something to consume during their trip. I feel the varied menu will appeal to the adventurous as well as those who prefer the standard choices. As far as impressing a date with an evening at a cafe in a train station, the possiblilities are only limited by the mind creating them. I, as a very creative woman, can think of numerous ways to make the evening a most memorable romantic event certain to win the heart of the man of my chosing.

Aladdin's newest venture, "ALL ABOARD CAFE," is not going to be adhering strictly to his ethnic menu. He will be serving from a breakfast and bakery menu in the morning. His lunch and dinner menu will have subs, burgers, paninis, soup, and salads, as well as favorites from his ethnic menu, including falafel, gyros, and chicken kabobs. Although his restaurant will feature counter service, he will provide cafe-style seating. At any rate, this service will beat the vending machine, and will definately improve the city's image.

People, read the piece. It's NOT a full Middle Eastern concept. It says, "Alaeddin is still fleshing out his full concept ...." Let him open. His Public Market location has burgers, soups, sandwiches and more.

While I wish them well, this has failure written all over it. Nothing says middle eastern cuisine as does Amrtrack. I work downtown, too far to walk, too big of pain to get the car out for lunch. I'm sure my next dinner date will be impressed with train station dining.
