Soccer is the world's biggest sport, yet Milwaukee doesn't have a Major League Soccer (MLS) team. The Wave has been wildly successful here, youth soccer is huge, college soccer in the area is kicking too, but no MLS team. Think it will ever happen, and if so, could we support big-time soccer in Milwaukee?
E-mail us at soundoff@staff.onmilwaukee.com and if picked, we'll post your response next Sunday. Only submissions that include your full name and where you live will be considered.
Last week's question: Who are Milwaukee's underdogs, "hidden gems" and all-around underrated people and services?
I love picking up my prescriptions at the Brady Street Pharmacy. I used to go to Osco, but the service is so much better at Brady Street.

Quality Optical on Third Street downtown is the best. It's family run, and everyone there is so nice. I got a great pair of vintage frames there, too.

Koppa's Foods delivers. I love that. Stay away from Jewel!

Alterra over Starbucks every time. I'm even ready for someone smaller than Alterra to crop up. Lately, I've felt annoyed by Alterra's Milwaukee monopoly, but it's still better than Starbucks.

Dave said: I'm behind you, Peter Wilt! Keep fighting the good fight. An MLS team would be a major benefit for the city of Milwaukee and I thank you for taking the lead on making it happen.

peter wilt said: In the interest of accuracy, below are several clarifications and corrections on some previous posts by others: Chicago did not "liquidate" itself of Polish players. Roman and Piotr retired and Jerzy Podbrozny went back to Poland to play the final two years of his career. Attendance did not go down after the Polish players left. Fire average attendance has actually gone up since Piotr's retirement (17,238 in 2005). The Fire did keep Piotr in its organization after he retired. He served as my assistant until he took the DC job. The southwest side of Chicago has many soccer fans including the large Polish community, which has continued to support the Fire, as well as the large Hispanic community mentioned in other posts. SW Cook and Will Counties are emerging youth soccer areas also. The Fire and MLS have never marketed toward ethnic communities INSTEAD of general markets. The Fire and MLS have marketed towards ethnic markets IN ADDITION to marketing towards general markets. Bridgeview is closer than Soldier Field to the large youth soccer market of DuPage County and the emerging youth soccer market of SW Cook and Will Counties. Bridgeview is further than Soldier Field by three miles, according to Mapquest, for fans from NW Cook, McHenry and most of Lake Counties. Drive time on a Saturday night however will be considerably shorter for all of these fans, because they can take the tri-state and avoid the typically congested traffic on the Kennedy. Due to the wonderful amenities and the better public transportation of downtown Chicago, we certainly would have preferred a downtown Chicago stadium, but the City of Chicago wasn't prepared to make a commitment even close to Bridgeview's. Bridgeview's commitment will ensure the long term success of MLS in Chicagoland. The Fire's new 20,000 seat stadium in Bridgeview will be the finest soccer stadium in the United States. The new stadia in MLS are also homes to major US Soccer matches and international games, not just MLS games. We hope to bring a similar home for MLS and international soccer to Milwaukee in 2008.

roggie15 said: Yes. Champion: LA Galaxy Teams: Chicago Fire, New England Revolution, San Jose Earthquakes(Should have been the real champions, won the Supporter's Shield) D.C. United, Colorado Rapids, NY/NJ Metrostars, FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake, Chivas USA, Columbus Crew, Kansas City Wizards. Happy? The MLS's fanbase is growing year by year. Heck I was in the same boat as you were last year. This past season was the first, but deffinatly not the last, season that I followed beginning to end and actually cared.
