For the first time ever, four summer films broke the $300 million mark at the box office: "Spider-Man 3" ($336.4 million), "Shrek 3" ($321 million), "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" ($307.6 million) and "Transformers" ($303.7 million).
A number of long-awaited films came out this summer, including "The Simpsons Movie" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." Plus, lots of people hail "Superbad" or "The Bourne Ultimatum" as their summer fave. But what do you think? What was the best movie of the season?
Here's a reminder of summer 2007 movies that might be at the top (or bottom) of your list:
Away From Her. After his wife of 40 years goes to a nursing home for Alzheimer's disease, a man has an epiphany when she falls for a wheel-chair bound mute, also in the institution.
The Bourne Ultimatum. While a government agent tries to track him down, Jason Bourne dodges his assassins while attempting to discover his unknown past.
Hairspray. In 1962, Tracy Turnblad lands a spot on a local TV dance show and teaches her hometown about integration.
Knocked Up. Stoner dude and career girl have a one-night stand and end up -- you guessed it -- knocked up.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Captain Barbossa, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann make their final alliances for one last decisive battle.
Ratatouille. Animated flick about a rat named Remy who dreams of becoming a great French chef.
Shrek 3. When his new father-in-law, King Harold, becomes ill, Shrek is the heir to the land of Far, Far Away.
Sicko. Michael Moore's latest documentary, exposing America's high-profit health care and HMO horror stories.
The Simpsons Movie. The Simpsons finally makes it to the big screen where Homer must save the world from a self-imposed catastrophe.
Spider-Man 3. A strange black entity from another world bonds with Peter Parker and causes inner turmoil.
Superbad. The plot is your typical guy-tries-to-get-laid-before-going-off-to-college, but many critics and moviegoers are saying it's way funnier than other films of this genre.
28 Weeks Later. Six months after the rage virus was inflicted on the British Isles, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors.
Transformers. A war re-erupts on Earth between two robotic clans.
None of the above. My favorite summer film of 2007 didn't make this list.
